Welcome

Trewithen Restaurant is a family business run by Alan, Julie and Alana Gilbert with head chef Jordan Cook.

We are open all year round serving a varied seasonal menu to both a loyal customer base and visitors to the area.

The restaurant is set over two floors of a 17th century townhouse in the heart of Lostwithiel, the ancient capital of Cornwall. We have a private dining room that can be hired for functions or meetings and a walled garden for sheltered al fresco dining during the summer months.

We are committed to ensuring that all our customers leave our restaurant with a positive experience and we will do everything we can to ensure that you enjoy your meal with us.

Please do give us a call on 01208 872373 to discuss your requirements.

Getting here

We are based in Lostwithiel on Fore Street between the 12th Century church and 13th century Duchy Palace.

Lostwithiel is on the A390 between St Austell and Liskeard and 5 miles south of the A30 at Bodmin.

There is free parking around the town centre and a mainline train line within close walking distance.

We can recommend the following local taxi companies:

Car Parking

We don’t have our own car park but there are various free parking areas around Lostwithiel’s town centre within a few minutes walk of the restaurant.

If you are lucky you might find some free parking just up from the restaurant on Fore Street.

If not, there is plenty of free parking in the main car park next to the Community Centre: turn off the A390 at the brown tourist information sign, opposite the road signposted to Restormel Castle.

There is further free parking along the quay next to the river Fowey: from the A390, turn down Fore Street then turn right when you reach the Co-operative supermarket. Or turn left at the Co-operative for parking along the Parade.

Restaurant

The ground floor of our restaurant is on street level and is full accessible for wheelchairs.

We have three dining rooms in the restaurant, two on the ground floor and the other on the first floor.

The ground floor dining rooms both have step free access. There are 13 steps to the first floor dining room.

Throughout the restaurant, there are upright chairs without arms and tables can be arranged to suit requirements and wheelchair users.

All of our dining rooms have carpet flooring.

We have regular customers with disabilities and mobility issues and do everything we can to make our restaurant comfortable and accessible to everyone.

Baby changing facilities are available on request.

Lighting is mainly natural during the day. At night the lighting is low level with candles however some tables have more light and can be reserved on request.

Large format menus are available and our front of house team are on hand to make personal recommendations about our local seasonal food and drinks.

We are always very happy to accommodate dietary requirements. We pride ourselves on being allergen aware and able to respond to individual customer requests. We make all the food we serve ourselves and know our suppliers well so we are very aware of what is in our food and where it comes from. We have a good selection of gluten and dairy free dishes available at all times and can adapt our dishes as required because we make everything to order.

Outdoor Dining

We have a sheltered courtyard garden at the rear of our building which is used for al fresco dining during the summer months.

The courtyard is on ground level and access is via a corridor along one side of the ground floor.

The courtyard is flat with level stone paving.

Customer Toilets

There is a unisex accessible toilet at the rear of the ground floor of the restaurant.

Whilst the bathroom is not strictly a disabled toilet, we have made adaptations by adding extra handrails and it has an outward opening door.

This bathroom is accessed along a short corridor from our two dining rooms on the ground floor and is also adjacent to our outdoor dining area used during the summer.

Our 2nd unisex bathroom is located on the first floor, which is accessed via a staircase with 13 steps.

Additional Information

Claire has completed training in disability awareness and we always have trained first aiders within our staff team.

We have clear signage showing the routes for emergency evacuation.

We welcome guide dogs throughout the restaurant and other dogs in the garden. Dog bowls can always be made available.

Future Plans

We plan to provide more detailed information for customers about how we cater for different dietary requirements and the flexibility we offer in terms of adapting dishes to suit individual needs.
